Strathmere is one of those wedding venues that gives couples a lot of flexibility without needing to travel between several locations during the day.
The natural surroundings, fields, trees, and rustic architecture provide different backgrounds for portraits while keeping everything close together.
From a photography perspective, one of my favourite things about Strathmere is the variety of light throughout the property. There are open areas for evening portraits as well as shaded locations that can work beautifully earlier in the day.

2. Loch March Golf & Country Club – Kanata (Ottawa area) Reception + Portraits
Loch March offers a classic wedding setting surrounded by greenery.
I especially like this location for outdoor wedding portraits. The landscape gives us plenty of space to work without every photograph looking identical, and the evening light can be beautiful.
The combination of a polished reception setting and natural outdoor surroundings makes Loch March a good option for couples who want something elegant without losing the outdoor feeling.

3. Sala San Marco – Ottawa (Little Italy) Reception
Sala San Marco offers a very different atmosphere from the outdoor venues in this guide.
I have photographed several wedding receptions here, and it works particularly well for larger celebrations and couples who prefer a traditional, elegant indoor reception.
Its central Ottawa location also gives us the option of planning portraits elsewhere in the city before arriving at the reception.

For photography, I particularly appreciate locations that provide both strong indoor and outdoor options. River House gives us modern interiors as well as the terrace and surrounding waterfront environment.

5. National Arts Centre (NAC) – Ottawa Wedding portraits + wedding venue
The National Arts Centre is one of my favourite locations for couples who prefer a modern, architectural look rather than a traditional garden or countryside setting.
I have photographed wedding portraits around the NAC, where the glass, wood, clean lines, terraces, and downtown surroundings create a very different visual style.
My personal photography experience here has primarily been with portraits, although the National Arts Centre also hosts wedding ceremonies and receptions.

6. Club de Golf du Parc Kingsway – Gatineau l Ceremony + Reception
Kingsway is a peaceful wedding venue surrounded by greenery.
I’ve photographed a wedding here, and what stood out to me was how relaxed the property felt. There is enough natural space to create different portraits without moving far from the ceremony or reception.
Shaded outdoor areas are particularly useful on bright wedding days because they give us softer, more flattering light for portraits.

Ottawa Rowing Club has a completely different character.
Located by the Ottawa River, it has a relaxed waterfront atmosphere with greenery, pathways, the clubhouse, and the water all available within the same area.
I’ve photographed weddings here, and I particularly like how naturally guests can move between the ceremony, reception, and outdoor spaces.
The river also gives us beautiful possibilities for evening portraits when the light begins to soften.

What Makes a Wedding Venue Photograph Beautifully?
A venue doesn’t have to be luxurious or enormous to photograph beautifully.
From a wedding photographer’s perspective, some of the most useful features are surprisingly practical.
Natural Light
Large windows, open outdoor areas, or shaded spaces give us more flexibility throughout the day.
Light changes constantly during a wedding, so having several options is far more valuable than having one single “perfect” photo location.
Different Portrait Backgrounds
A strong venue usually gives us several environments within a short walking distance.
That might include trees, architecture, water, open fields, terraces, or indoor spaces.
It means we can create variety without taking you away from your wedding for a long period of time.
Good Flow Between Spaces
The distance between getting ready, the ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour, and reception matters more than many couples initially realize.
Less unnecessary travel usually means a more relaxed photography timeline and more time to actually enjoy the wedding.
