Which Collection Is Right for Your Celebration?
The right amount of photography coverage depends less on the number of guests and more on what you actually want photographed.
3 hours may be right for you if:
You’re planning a City Hall ceremony, courthouse wedding, or simple elopement and mainly want your ceremony, family photographs, and couple portraits documented.
4 hours may be right for you if:
You’re having a small ceremony followed by portraits and an intimate celebration, dinner, or reception and want more flexibility in your timeline.
5 hours may be right for you if:
You’d like some getting-ready coverage or have multiple locations and want the ceremony, portraits, family photographs, and the beginning of your celebration documented without rushing.

A City Hall wedding can be simple, meaningful, and incredibly personal.
Shorter photography coverage is particularly well suited to these celebrations because we can focus on the ceremony itself and then use the remaining time for photographs with your family and portraits of the two of you around Ottawa.
You don’t need an elaborate timeline or a full day of photography to create a complete story.
With thoughtful planning, even a few hours can give us time for the important moments without making your wedding feel like one long photoshoot.
What Is an Intimate Wedding?
There isn’t a strict guest-count rule that determines whether a wedding is “intimate.”
For me, the important difference is the structure of the day.
An intimate wedding often has a smaller guest list, fewer formal events, and a more relaxed timeline than a traditional full wedding day.
It might be:
- A City Hall ceremony followed by dinner
- A ceremony with immediate family and close friends
- A backyard wedding
- A restaurant celebration
- A small ceremony at a local venue
- A weekday wedding
- A private elopement with only the two of you
The photography coverage should reflect the wedding you are actually planning rather than forcing your celebration into a traditional full-day package.
You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose
A smaller wedding does not mean I expect you to be comfortable in front of the camera.
Most couples aren’t.
During portraits, I’ll guide you with positioning, posture, movement, and what to do with your hands so you don’t have to figure it out yourself.
I use simple direction rather than holding you in stiff poses.
Once you’re comfortable and the interaction feels natural, I step back and give you room to focus on each other.
During the ceremony and the rest of your celebration, I work much more quietly and photograph the real interactions and moments happening around you.
The goal is photographs that feel polished and intentional while still looking like you.
Planning Your Elopement Photography Timeline
Even a three-hour celebration benefits from a little planning.
Before your wedding, we’ll talk about:
- Your ceremony time
- Ceremony location
- Travel between locations
- Family photographs
- Couple portraits
- Any important traditions or moments
- Where you’d like photographs taken
- How you want to use the time after the ceremony
I’ll help you understand what realistically fits into the coverage you’re considering.
The goal is not to squeeze as many photographs as possible into a short period of time. It’s to use the time thoughtfully so the experience still feels relaxed.
Choosing a Location for Your Portraits
Ottawa gives us plenty of options for portraits after a City Hall ceremony or intimate wedding.
Depending on the look you prefer, we can choose something architectural and urban, a quieter natural setting, waterfront views, parks, or another location that has personal meaning to you.
I photograph elopements and intimate weddings throughout Ottawa, Gatineau, Chelsea, Wakefield, and surrounding areas.
If your ceremony and portrait location are different, travel time needs to be included when deciding how much photography coverage you need.
Additional Photography Coverage
If your plans grow or you decide you’d like additional photography time, extra coverage may be available for:
$450 per additional hour
Additional time is subject to availability and is best discussed before the wedding whenever possible.
Do You Need a Second Photographer?
Most smaller weddings and elopements do not automatically need a second photographer.
For a simple City Hall ceremony or an intimate celebration at one location, one photographer is often more than enough.
A second photographer may be useful if you have separate getting-ready locations, important moments happening at the same time, or a more complex schedule.
It is available as an optional add-on and should be confirmed in advance.
If I don’t think your plans require one, I won’t recommend adding one simply for the sake of upgrading your collection.
Planning a Larger Wedding?
If your celebration includes a traditional full wedding day, multiple locations, getting ready, ceremony, reception, speeches, and evening events, 3–5 hours may not give you enough coverage.
For larger weddings, I offer separate 6, 8, and 10-hour Wedding Photography Collections.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
My elopement and intimate wedding collections currently begin at $1,600 + HST for 3 hours.
Four hours is $2,000 + HST, and five hours is $2,400 + HST.
For many City Hall weddings and simple elopements, yes.
Three hours can provide enough time for the ceremony, family photographs, couple portraits, and additional candid moments when the locations are reasonably close together.
The additional hour gives you more flexibility.
It can be particularly useful when you have travel between locations, want a longer portrait session, or would like part of your intimate reception or dinner documented.

Five hours can allow for some getting-ready coverage, the ceremony, family and couple portraits, and part of your celebration afterward.
If your timeline includes several traditional wedding events or significant travel, a 6-hour or longer wedding collection may make more sense.
